THE CRAFT BEHIND THE EXPERIENCE

Why chainstitch embroidery?

Vintage chainstitch embroidery machine used for live corporate and brand events

What is chainstitch embroidery?

Chainstitch embroidery is a hand-guided technique done on vintage machines. Unlike computerized embroidery, the artist controls every line, curve, and letter in real time, almost like drawing with thread.

  • Visually distinctive: Bold, textured stitching that stands out in person, in photos, and on video
  • Personalized in real time: Names, initials, and selected designs can be stitched live for each guest

At live events, the process becomes part of the experience. Guests choose a design or personalization, watch it take shape in front of them, and leave with a custom piece made on the spot.

WHAT CAN WE EMBROIDER AT YOUR EVENT?

Chain stitch embroidery works especially well on denim, canvas, and other structured garments and accessories.

Popular items:

  • Denim jackets, jeans, and vests
  • T-shirts, sweatshirts, and workwear
  • Hats, patches, and fabric panels
  • Tote bags, bandanas, and canvas accessories

Personalization options:

  • Guest names, initials, and monograms
  • Brand logos and campaign artwork
  • Event dates, slogans, and symbols
  • Custom illustrations and event-exclusive designs

Bring your own merchandise, or let us help source the right pieces and create a custom design menu for your activation.

We brought Kai in to do live chainstitch embroidery at our event at the Santa Monica Proper, and honestly, it made the night. Guests could watch their tote bags get stitched right in front of them, and there was a line for it most of the evening. Kai is just great to have around. He was great with our guests, easygoing with our staff, and unfazed when things got busy. Everyone went home with something no one else had, which is exactly what we wanted. If you're looking for chainstitch embroidery or a live activation, I'd point you straight to amR.

We've been working with Kai and amR for a while now, and we're grateful to have him as part of the Roadie family. He's created custom jackets, hats, high-end merch, and live event pieces for us, and his chainstitch work is consistently second to none. At Roadie, we believe people can feel when real care and craftsmanship go into a product, and Kai's work reflects exactly that. He's helped elevate how our merch looks and feels, works incredibly well with our team, and understands our brand as well as we do. We couldn't recommend him more. Great guy, great work, and we appreciate everything he does for Roadie.

PLANNING YOUR EVENT

WHY CHOOSE LIVE EMBROIDERY FOR AN EVENT?

Live chainstitch embroidery gives guests something to take part in, not just something to watch. They choose a design, see it stitched right in front of them, and leave with a personalized piece made just for them.

The stitching itself becomes part of the event. The vintage machine, the artist, and the process naturally draw people in and give guests something fun to watch, photograph, and share.

For brands, it’s a simple way to create a more personal experience and give guests something they’ll actually want to keep. Instead of a standard giveaway, they leave with something made for them on the spot and a reminder of the event they can wear long after it’s over.

Can we provide our own merchandise?

Absolutely. You can bring your own merchandise, or we can help you find the right pieces for your event. Just send us what you’re thinking of using, and we’ll make sure it’s a good fit.

Can you create custom embroidery designs for our event?

Yes. We can create a custom selection of designs around your brand, campaign, or event, including logos, lettering, icons, and original artwork.

If you already have artwork in mind, send it over and we can adapt it for chainstitch. Before the event, we’ll confirm the designs, thread colors, placement, and what we’ll be stitching on.

Guests can then choose from the approved designs and watch their piece being embroidered live at the event.

Can amR handle large corporate events and high-volume activations?

Yes. We work on everything from smaller private events to corporate events, festivals, and large-scale brand activations with hundreds or thousands of guests.

For busier events, we can bring additional artists and machines to serve more guests and keep things moving.

We’re also happy to work directly with your agency, venue, or production team ahead of the event so everyone knows the plan before the event starts.

SETUP & PRICING

What’s included in the live embroidery setup?

We bring everything needed for the embroidery, including the artist, machine, table, thread, and stitching supplies.

We also take care of setup and breakdown, so once the details are confirmed, your team can focus on the event.

How much does live embroidery cost?

Every event is a little different, so pricing depends on things like guest count, event length, how many artists are needed, and whether you’re bringing your own merchandise or would like help finding it.

Send us your event details and we’ll recommend a setup that makes sense and put together a clear quote.

How much space and power do you need?

A typical setup needs around 10 × 10 ft of space on a flat surface, plus access to a standard power outlet.

If you’re working with a smaller space, an outdoor venue, or somewhere with limited power, just let us know. We can usually find a setup that works.

We’re also happy to coordinate directly with your venue or production team before the event to sort out access, power, timing, and setup.

How many guests can you accommodate at an event?

It depends on the design, event length, and number of artists on-site. As a general guide, one embroidery station can usually complete around 120–150 personalized pieces during a full-day event, with many designs taking about 3–5 minutes each.

For larger events, we can add more artists and machines to increase capacity. We can also prep part of the embroidery ahead of time and finish each piece live at the event if that makes more sense for the guest count.

Send us your estimated guest count and event hours, and we’ll recommend the best setup for your event.
